Funicular Railway

Lisbon Portugal Tourist Information and Vacation Guide

A funicular is a type of railway that was designed to carry passengers up steep inclines.  Because of Lisbon's hilly topography, funiculars are a practical mode of transportation in the city.

Lisbon has three funicular railways: Gloria, Bica and Lavra. They are an integral part of the Lisbon public transportation system.
